Product Recall

THERE IS AN URGENT RECALL ON PRODUCTS CONTAINING PHOLCODINE

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has recalled 55 products containing Pholcodine, due to a link between Pholcodine-containing medicines and an increased risk of anaphylactic reactions to certain medicines used as muscle relaxants during general anaesthesia.

Pholcodine is an ingredient commonly found in dry cough medications (such as syrups and lozenges). It may also be found in combination with other medicines in products that treat the symptoms of cold and flu.

We advise to cease the use of any medicine containing Pholcodine and seek other alternatives. Be sure to check your medicine cabinet at home and you can bring any Pholcodine containing products to our Pharmacy for safe disposal. The TGA’s job is to make sure that therapeutic products are held to high safety standards, and fortunately, there are plenty of safe and TGA-approved alternatives available - if you have any questions or need assistance finding other options to relieve a dry cough, please speak with one of our friendly Pharmacists in-store.
